Given that it's a new year and many of us set goals/resolutions for the next 12 months, I felt this post was necessary to open 2018 with. About nine months ago, I decided to make a life change and start living a healthier lifestyle. I cut out most dairy products (with the exception of cheese here and there) and joined a fitness group where many women inspired one another with recipes, workout routines, etc. Growing up, I have always dealt with stomach issues and was very sensitive to certain food groups. Unbeknownst to me, I had an actual allergy and instead of thinking having a stomach ache was the “norm”, I decided to do something and cut it out completely. I traded in regular milk for almond milk, cut out yogurt and opted for the gluten free option when eating starch. Once I did so, I felt a trillion times better. I became committed to this lifestyle change and being me, decided to do a ton of research to find food alternatives that would satisfy me/ my sweet tooth ;). Living a gluten free and dairy free life can be challenging, especially for sweet treats. However, there are many places in NYC that cater to these needs and some of those places are my favorites. Sweets By Chloe, Van Leeuwen, Cookie DO NYC, Tu-Lu’s Bakery, these are just a few of my go to places. As you can see in my pictures, the 'Vegan Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip’ is my fave at Van Leeuwen! At their Greenpoint location, they make all their ice cream from scratch with a handful of fresh ingredients. The vegan flavors are probably some of the creamiest. Recipes include using house made cashew milk, organic cane sugar, and pure cocoa butter. Let’s just say- it is perfection!
If you’re interested in knowing what I eat in a day, I can do an entire post on that showing you breakfast, lunch, dinner and my 2 small snacks! For now, check out my Pinterest board for recipe inspiration and follow along on my insta stories as I am always posting vegan treats:)
